Bayelsa Sets Up Panel On Governorship Election Violence

The Bayelsa State Government has true to its word, set up a commission of inquiry to investigate the violence that characterized the recently declared inconclusive governorship election in the state.

d*ckson had hinted that he would constitute a panel to unravel the victims of the election violence and expose its masterminds as well as the role played by security agencies.

The commission expected to be inaugurated on Monday, according to a statement by d*ckson’s spokesman, Mr. , has as chairman, Mr. , secretary, while Mr. will serve as counsel.

To serve as members of the commission are Brigadier-General Bob Ake (rtd), Dr. (Mrs.) Victoria Abah Tekena and Mrs. .

The commission, which was given 21 days to complete its a$$ignment and turn in its report, would among others, determine the number and identities of the people that were injured or killed during the violence in parts of the state from December 3-6.

It will also determine the role played by security agencies in the said incidents, if any, and recommend measures aimed at averting future occurrences of such violence.
