The Air Force 1 finally sheds some much needed weight.

The Air Force 1 is one of Nike’s most iconic sneakers, and also one of its longest running silhouettes. Every year, the high and low top versions of the sneaker are released in enough different colorways to make any sneakerhead happy. However, Nike is always looking for a way to innovate the long-running sneaker model.
Enter Flyknit technology. First created for use on running shoes to reduce weight and for added comfort, the material has since caught on as both a functional fabric and a fashion statement. It’s been applied to a ton of different silhouettes, but until now has not graced either the AF1 high top or low top.

The team had to get creative on the very old school sneaker silhouette, since the original Air Force 1 design relies heavily on multi-panel construction. Despite difficulties, designers were able to create a shoe that is half the weight of the original AF1 high while simultaneously putting together the first ever Flyknit sneaker featuring a leather swoosh.

The AF1 Flyknit is available now in White and Red/Black via They hit retailers worldwide January 28.
