Martial is proud of Manchester’s victory and his goal
Anthony Martial ensured Man United maintained their push for the Champions League places with a one nil win over Everton to move a point behind their local rival Man City in fourth, who they beat immediately before the international break.
Martial’s 13th goal for United this season was provided courtesy of a superb combination play by Rashford and Fosu-Mensah. Rashford rolled an improvised backheel into the path of Fosu-Mensah, whose cross evaded Stones and Coleman for Martial to drill into the net. Excellent Blind’s departure due to injury gave Everton the impetus to attack more but to no avail.
Anthony Martial spoke of his pride after scoring Manchester United’s 1,000th Old Trafford goal in the Premier League: “Really proud to have scored @ManUtd 1000th @premierleague [goal] yesterday. Thanks again for your great support! #manchester”.
The France forward has scored eight goals in 25 Premier League appearances since joining from Monaco.
Manchester United manager van Gaal hailed Martial’s talent after the win and for the former Monaco star.
Meanwhile, speaking to the Daily Mail UK, Martial named Cristiano Ronaldo, Ronaldinho Gaucho and Zinedine Zidane as his three favourite players during his childhood.
He said: “My three favourite players were Ronaldo, the Brazilian, Ronaldinho and (Zinedine) Zidane because they’re players who were beautiful to watch play and they’re ones who made me want to play football.”
