Done Deal: Manchester United To Announce New Signing In Coming Hours
Manchester United are reportedly set to announce the signing of Paul Woolston after the goalkeeper was released by Newcastle. Woolston impressed while on trial with United earlier this summer and the 20-year-old is understood to have reached an agreement with the Premier League giants.
The Red Devils have been keen to bring a new ‘keeper to the academy to provide competition for Under-23 starlets Matej Kovar and Alex Fojticek.
According to Manchester Evening News, United will officially unveil Woolston in the coming hours.
Newcastle decided to release Woolston at the end of last season as Karl Darlow, Rob Elliot and Freddie Woodman were all ahead of him in the pecking order at St James’ Park.
Woolston is set to sign a contract with United until the end of the 2018/19 campaign and is expected to join up with Richard Sbragia’s U23 side.
Goalkeepers Dean Henderson, Joel Pereira and Kieran O’Hara were all allowed to leave United on loan in the summer.
Max Johnstone, Ilias Moutha-Sebtaoui and Theo Richardson were also released by the club.
