NYSC Warns Corps Members Against Being Used by Politicians in the Oncoming Elections
The National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, has shared a statement in which it warns corps members about the murkiness of political elections, and this comes after false text messages reportedly surfaced, informing members of scheme’s political interests.
In a statement shared on its website, scheme states that it remains apolitical and so expects that corps members will desist from campaigning for political parties and candidates. The statement further noted that it only partners with all stakeholders to ensure free and fair elections in the country.
“Corps Members should please note that the NYSC will neither send text messages canvassing campaigning for political parties and candidates nor release Corps data to such groups,” it read, adding, “The Scheme is apolitical and remains unbiased to all contestants during election process and will continue to leverage on the tremendous achievements it has recorded in the democratic process of the country.”
it continued, “The NYSC partners all stakeholders in order to ensure free, fair and credible elections across the country. All corps members are hereby reminded of the Director-General’s advice to remain neutral in their responsibility as INEC ad-hoc staff in the process of the 2019 General Elections.”
